MCCA Teacher Profile: Ms. Jamie!

How long have you been a teacher at MCCA? What do you teach?

I have been with MCCA since August of 2013 - I am one of the O.G. staffers. I teach all styles of dance, primarily focused on the pre-professional program. Contemporary is my favorite style of dance.

What are you most excited about for our 10 Year Anniversary?

Reflecting on all of the joy we have experienced over 10 years and marveling at how much we have grown in so many ways!

If you could have a superpower what would you choose?

Teleportation - that would make it so easy to take a vacation!

If you could have dinner with any two people from history, who would you choose?

Oh my - only 2? That is tough.

Definitely Alecia Moore-Hart AKA P!nk. I just love everything about her and being the same age it feels like I have known her my whole life. I am pretty sure we would be best of friends. :-)

From a professional standpoint, Ohad Naharin, Martha Graham and Twyla Tharp.

The ultimate dinner party would be P!nk, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Brene Brown and Matthew McConaughey. I find each of these life-inspiring in a variety of ways.

Sorry I didnt follow directions.

Who is your role model and why?

Oh geesh another tough one! I can not just name one. I am guided and inspired by so many people each day. All of the people from the previous question,my daughter, my husband, my family, my friends, my students, my colleagues, and genuine kind, organic people who live their lives in grace and growth. One awesome aspect of social media is the chance to be inspired by others.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Bali.

Outside of MCCA, what else are you involved in?

I am a Realtor with The Goodfellow Agency, an adjunct at FSU, and also dabble in photography. My husband also owns his own business in which our family is very involved.

I am a black belt at Kickmaster Karate where I am honored to also have the chance to teach and learn from the best.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Ha-Ha I find the older I get the more this list grows. The biggest pet peeve… I guess that would be manners - please and thank you go a long way.

How do you define success?

Success is when you finally realize failures are a part of growth. All roads lead forward when you are willing to make the journey and the destinations become boundless.

Describe yourself in three words

Humble, Hungry and Kind.
