Senior Profile! Mia Porter

Hello!! I’m Emilia and this is my fourth year at MCCA! I have taken many dance, musical theatre, and voice classes during that time. I began taking classes at MCCA in 2018 and I was simply hooked! I started out in the protégé track taking ballet, contemporary, and pointe with Miss Jamie. Over time I started to take voice and acting lessons, and ended up doing Junie B Jones, The Musical over the summer. My love for musical theatre flourished in just a year surrounded by the staff and students at Mountain City Center for the Arts. I became a student ambassador in 2019, helping with Miss Coty’s classes (whoop whoop trailblazers and dreamchasers!)and I’ve assisted with various Pre-Professional dance classes since. I love watching all my tiny humans grow into the beautiful, kind, and talented girls they are today!

As a senior (eeeek so weird), I was super anxious going back to classes. I am now one of the oldest student role models and it is my last year at MCCA! But alas, it was a fantastic first week back. Simply being in the studio, dancing with amazing people, it’s the best thing in the world!

This past week I also went back to assisting! I’m helping with Trailblazers with Miss Shelby this semester!! The highlight of my nights include plieing and yell-screaming the MCCA mantra with my girls. My goals for the year are to strengthen my vocals and maybe add a few new songs into my repertoire. As well as improve my acting skills for future shows at MCCA. And perhaps this semester I’ll finally be able to master a fouette haha!! I hope everybody has a happy and safe year and thank you for reading about my journey with Mountain City Center for the Arts!
