FROG & TOAD KIDS
By: Ms. Shelby
We’re having so much fun creating the world of Frog and Toad! We chose A Year with Frog and Toad Kids for our Fall 2024 show because it’s a story of adventure, authenticity, and true, unconditional friendship. I have always loved the Frog and Toad books, and the Kids' version of the musical is just so fun, quirky, and catchy! The quick pace of the process provides a challenge for the students involved, but with a familiar story that everyone loves!
The extra special thing about our version of Frog and Toad is the small cast size - every actor is busy the entire show, constantly changing characters, and appearing and reappearing in number after number. This would be impressive for any performer to pull off, but in this production, it’s all being done by actors who are 5 to 10 years old!
In A Year with Frog and Toad Kids, we follow best friends Frog (Nola Logsdon) and Toad (Dylan Rando) along a year full of adventures with their friends and neighbors Turtle (Logan Grapes), Mouse (Elwood Shaw), Lizard (Claire Miller), Snail (Adeline Porter), the Squirrels (Beatrice Nau, Sage Hower, Elwood Shaw, Claire Miller), the Birds (Sofia Grapes, Serena Vantelas, Claire Miller, Logan Grapes, Sage Hower, Beatrice Nau), and the Moles (full company). We adventure along with them as they go swimming, bake cookies, go sledding, and so much more!
A Year with Frog and Toad Kids is Directed and Choreographed by Shelby Herbert, Music Directed by Liz O’Neal, Assistant Directed by Oliver Nau, with Technical Direction, Design, and Build by Brendon E. McCabe and Projections by Jessica Grapes.
Come join us on the adventure of A Year with Frog and Toad Kids in MCCA’s Studio 4 on October 18th and 19th at 7 pm and October 20th at 2 pm.
FAIRYTALE ONE ACTS
By: Mr. Matthan
Why these plays and why I like them-
I ended up reading probably ten or more scripts trying to find the three that would best suit the kids I had, but also trying to keep the process fun and entertaining. Many of the plays I read were just the same basic fairy tales we all know already, so I wanted to pick several plays that would allow my students to be creative and to give the audience a new perspective towards some traditional fairy tales.
What it’s about-
Fairytale One Acts is a selection of three different plays, each ranging between 10-12 pages of dialogue. Each play is a twist on a fairytale that we have all heard before. Our first play is a twist on a classic princess story, seen through the eyes of a young girl. The second play takes us on a journey into the world of Shakespeare, where the fairies plot to get into one of his plays. In our final play, we get to see three mystery characters try to woo our contestant into picking them to be their new best friend. Fairytale One Acts is a great mix of classics and new stories that will definitely leave you thoroughly entertained!
