Celebrating MCCA’s Spirit & Service Week!

Hello, MCCA Family!

I hope your Fall semester is off to a fabulous start! As we settle into our third week of class, we are pumped up to announce a big celebration coming up in week four - MCCA’s Spirit & Service Week! To commemorate MCCA’s 8th Anniversary, we will hold this year’s Spirit & Service Week September 13th-17th.

Spirit & Service Week is always a highlight of the fall semester. Students and staff dress up for fun theme days and we collect donations for different local charities and organizations. Past donation recipients include: Heart of the Earth Sanctuary, Allegany County Animal Shelter, Jane’s Place, Western MD food bank, Jumpstart Theatre and more! Community service has always been at the core of MCCA’s mission and we are grateful to our students and families for their generosity over the years.

This year, we are thrilled to be focusing the entire week on a very special organization - Acting Out For Good. Formerly Acting Out for ALS, Acting Out for Good was founded by Mark & Jennifer Ashby. As Acting Out for ALS, this community theatre was dedicated to raising money for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), and they have now pivoted to a larger mission.

The newly named “Acting Out for Good'' is dedicated to supporting and donating to a variety of local organizations and causes. Their most-recent production of Next to Normal raised money for Mental Health programs in Mineral County schools. In December, they will produce Matilda, which will benefit a community member’s ongoing battle with COVID-19 and the medical expenses that have been accumulating.

THIS YEAR’S SPIRIT & SERVICE WEEK THEMES:
Musical Monday - dress as your favorite character from a musical or rock star/musician
Teal Tuesday - wear your Teal to celebrate MCCA’s official 8 year Anniversary
Wacky Wednesday - wear your silliest and wackiest outfits
Throwback Thursday - dress in your favorite decade attire or historical figure
Fun Friday - keep an eye out for social media/video challenges!

Get those costumes ready! We can’t wait to see everyone dressed up for a good cause! Along with participating in the dress-up days, we ask that you please consider donating what you can to Acting Out For Good. We firmly believe in their mission and are grateful that our community and students have so many opportunities to participate in local theatre. Many MCCA students and family members have participated in Acting Out productions, and they have amazing things to say about their experiences.

“Acting Out For Good is so great, because they help local people who need assistance. Mr. Mark makes acting so much fun!” -Madelyn Hook, current MCCA student

“Acting Out For Good is an amazing group for people of all ages. Their welcoming production team makes their shows fun, but also helps build a hard-working cast of performers. I always love doing shows with them, and the causes they support just makes it that much better!” -Erica Bennett, MCCA Alumni Class of 2021
How to donate:
Bring cash or check (made out to Acting Out For Good) when you come for class
Donate to ‘Acting Out for Good’ via PayPal: https://actingoutforgood.com/

Thank you all for an AMAZING 8 years of MCCA! We look forward to celebrating with all of you. Have a great week!
